Just prior to 1500 hours, Truck 1 was alerted to respond as the 1st Due special service for the building fire at 7900 New Riggs Road in 34’s area. Upon E343’s arrival, they immediately called for the second alarm as they had 2 apartments fully involved. Truck 1 arrived on scene shortly after 343 and immediately went to work splitting the crew of 8 to perform interior and exterior assignments.

Truck 1 assisted with entry into both apartments, performed primary and secondary searches, and placed ground ladders to windows and balconies around the fire building. The truck’s aerial ladder was also used to open up the roof to extinguish residual fire in the cockloft. The truck was held for investigations and extensive overhaul for both apartments. The preliminary finding to what caused the fire can be traced back to someone falling asleep with a cigarette.

Engine 11 was dispatched as the 1st due engine on the second alarm. Upon arrival E-11, along with E-121, E-113 and Tower 7 were instructed to approach the fire building from Jasmine Terrace. E-11, E-121, and E-113 coordinated efforts to established an LDH water supply from a good hydrant on Riggs Road. E-11 had planned to complete the lay with dual lines to the fire building, but units on the scene gained control of the fire and the long lay was not needed. 2nd Alarm units cleared shortly after 1630 hours while the truck remained on scene to help units rack a couple thousand feet of hose and went in service just after 1700 hours.
