HVFD Adds Battery-Powered Amkus Rescue Tools Thanks to Gary Sinise Foundation Grant

The Hyattsville VFD is pleased to announce that we’ve taken delivery of a new set of battery powered Amkus Cutter and Spreaders, funded by a nearly $25,000 grant from the Gary Sinise Foundation which supports first responders across the country.

These mission-critical tools will complement our extrication equipment on Rescue Squad 1, with more flexible use than our traditional hydraulic tools to navigate smaller spaces and unique situations.

Earlier this year, the HVFD was awarded a similar grant from the Leary Firefighters Foundation for the purchase of 26 thermal imaging cameras. This will put a full size FLIR K2 thermal imaging camera in each first-out unit in our fleet, and 23 personal Seek Reveal Fire Pro X cameras in each riding position for individual firefighters.

“The impact these grants make on our ability to deliver best-in-class fire and rescue services to our community is significant,” Fire Chief Ryan Pidgeon said. “Our volunteers and career staff deserve the best equipment to do their jobs and help save lives and property.”
