The Hyattsville Volunteer Fire Department is excited to announce the purchase of a new second engine, a Seagrave Fire Apparatus Capital Cab with a Cummins X12 500 HP motor and 1500 GPM single stage Waterous pump.
The department has been operating a single engine company since 2011 when our current Pierce wagon was acquired, in part by a FEMA Assistance to Firefighters grant. At the time, our two prior engines — 1988 and 1990 Pierce Arrows — were deadlined.
Over the last few years, our engine company call volume has steadily increased, hitting an all-time high in 2018 with 1,832 responses, double our call volume just 20 years ago. With the new engine, we’ll be able to provide best-in-class service to the community and extend the lifespan of our current engine.
The unit was placed in service in early 2020.
