Squad First Arriving on District Heights Two-Alarmer

Clearing a small house fire in Chapel Oaks, Rescue Squad 1 was alerted for the reported apartment fire with people trapped at 5054 Silver Hill Court.

Rescue Squad 1 arrived on the scene with smoke showing. Initial reports by police indicated one trapped in a terrace level apartment.

A second alarm was requested. Fire attack was initiated and searches done of the fire apartment and exposures, which turned up negative. The fire was knocked down and command released the second alarm units shortly before 11 a.m.

Units from across the region responded to the incident, transferred in to cover county stations during funeral services for Prince George’s County Firefighter/Medic John “Skillet” Ulmschneider. The HVFD staffed multiple crews so that our day side county career staff could attend the services in Hollywood, Md.
