First Due Attic Fire Quickly Knocked (Photos)

At 2322 hours on May 1, Engine & Truck Company 1 were dispatched for a reported house fire in the 3900 block of Kennedy Street on Hyattsville, arriving to find smoke and fire showing from the attic of a two-story single family home.

Chief 1, running as Battalion Chief 4, had the command. Engine 1 stretched a 200′ 1 1/2 line to attack the fire while Truck 1’s split crew threw ladders on the exterior and began in interior search. Units found fire from a drop down door to the attic, and the line was stretched to extinguish the fire. Crews opened up for any limited remaining extension and performed extensive officer hall, as well as assisted investigators.

All residents of the home were able to escape unharmed. No other injuries were reported.

HVFD units were staffed with 13 volunteers, with an additional ambulance crew handling other calls.
