The Hyattsville Volunteer Fire Department welcomed the opportunity to join the American Red Cross National Capital Region, FEMA Corp and the Prince George’s County Fire/EMS Department in an outreach effort Saturday, March 7 checking and installing smoke alarms and helping our citizens create fire safety and escape plans.
In total, 86 alarms were installed, 66 batteries replaced and 65 fire plans created by the teams going door-to-door led by the American Red Cross program.
HVFD Chief Dave Hang and Prince George’s Fire/EMS Department Chief Marc Bashoor were joined by over 70 members and staff of the organizations in the effort.
The HVFD expects to work even closer with the Red Cross in the future as we share our new joint emergency services facility/firehouse when constructed. Our temporary quarters during construction of the new facility will be the former county headquarters of the Red Cross, presently under renovation.
