At 1441 hours, Station 1 was alerted to respond with Rescue Squad 1 to 6303 Riggs Road for the collapse investigation. Squad 1 responded with 6 members and was alerted while enroute that there was a possibility that a tornado had been through the area and that the roof of an elementary school had been lifted off.

Upon arrival of the Squad, command requested that the crew split to control utilities because a 4 inch gas line was free flowing into the building. Once this task was completed the half of the crew conducted primary searches with 44’s crew while the other half completed a size up of the building to verify structural integrity. The tornado had lifted the roof directly off the building but left the brick walls intact. Units also requested to the scene were Truck 55, Tech Rescue 22, Squad 14, and Montgomery County’s USAR team was placed on standby. Once all primary and secondary searches proved negative units were released and Squad 1 cleared at 1601 hours after helping E44 rack hose.
