HVFD Tackles Eight Fires Over Last Two Weeks

Company 1 has responded to eight fires in the last two weeks — a busy start to December for our crews.

Just after midnight this Christmas morning, Truck 1 was dispatched as the first due truck company for a fire in the area of Riggs Road & Drexel Street in the Langley Park area.

Engine 34 arrived with fire showing & the truck crew forced entry, completed searches and opened up while the outside team laddered the building, ventilated and controlled utilities.

At approximately 7:35am on Tuesday, Engine 1 responded first due to the 4100 block of Oglethorpe Street in Hyattsville and extinguished a bedroom fire.

On Saturday, Company 1 operated on two back to back fires in Landover Hills. Truck 1 operated as the third due truck for a hotel fire in the 3900 block of 62nd Ave. Squad 1 was then dispatched as the search company for a house fire in the 7400 block of Parkwood St.

Other notable incidents include:

  • On December 10, Squad 1 operated as the search company on a house fire in the 5600 block of Hawthorne St in Cheverly
  • On December 13, Engine 1 responded as the second due engine to the 6300 block of 20th Avenue in Chillum for a house fire.
  • On December 16, Engine 1 responded first due to the 3100 block of Queens Chapel Rd for the apartment fire. Units had smoke showing from the roof upon arrival.
