Department Bids Farewell to Fire Chief Ryan Pidgeon

Officers, members, alumni, friends, and family came together at the firehouse this past Sunday to celebrate Chief Ryan Pidgeon’s final full day as Fire Chief of the Hyattsville Volunteer Fire Department.

Chief Pidgeon is leaving the department after four years in the role for a new position at a fire department in California.

“It has been an honor and pleasure to serve as Fire Chief of the Hyattsville Volunteer Fire Department over the past 3 and a half years,” Pidgeon said. “Leading such a dedicated team has been a deeply rewarding experience. I wish Chief Sullivan, Deputy Chief Smith, and the membership success in their mission to serve the Hyattsville community.”

At 1800 hours, we welcomed Hyattsville, Maryland – Municipal Government Mayor Robert Croslin, Councilmember Kareem Redmond, and Acting Lt. Christopher Evans of the Hyattsville Police Department to the firehouse who presented Chief Pidgeon with a plaque commemorating his years of service to the city and citizens of Hyattsville.

At 1815 hours, as the presentation wrapped up, the company was alerted to Box 44-01 for the basement fire. Chiefs 1 & 1B, Engine 1B and Ambulance 1 responded and operated. Chief Pidgeon had command of what would be his final fire as Fire Chief.

The day concluded with a steak dinner prepared for Chief Pidgeon with members, family, and friends. “We wish Chief Pidgeon all the best as he transitions to his new role and thank him for his many years of dedicated service to the Hyattsville Volunteer Fire Department.

Pidgeon joined the department as a live-in member in August 2011, coming with several years of experience with departments in New York.

Henry Sullivan will take the reins as the new HVFD Fire Chief. Additional information on Chief Sullivan is coming soon.
