HVFD Volunteers Raise $2,000 for NFFF at National Harbor 9/11 Stair Climb

Nearly 20 HVFD volunteers participated in the 2015 Prince George’s County 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb & Walk at National Harbor, raising over $2,000 to support the mission of the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation. We were also honored to participate in the event’s ladder arch along with PGFD Truck 32.

The event is a way to honor and remember the FDNY firefighters who selflessly gave their lives so that others might live on 9/11. Each participant pays tribute to an FDNY firefighter by climbing or walking the equivalent of the 110 stories of the World Trade Center.

Of the 17 members who participated in the climb, 13 completed it in full gear. Another member raised funds but was unable to participate in the climb.

The team’s top fund raisers were Patricia Thomas ($510), Nathan Zeck ($410), Stephen Hulick ($299), Jon Formella ($180), Jon Strope ($105) and Vanessa Lugo Villegas ($70).

The HVFD was the third largest team fund raiser for the event. Congratulations the PGFD’s Career Recruit School 51 for being the top team fundraiser at $5,265. Overall an astounding $36,000 was raised at the event to support the NFFF.

A crew of HVFD volunteers stayed in Hyattsville to provide staffing for the engine, squad and Paramedic Ambulance during the event.
