Second New Ambulance Nears Delivery

The Hyattsville Volunteer Fire Department has entered into a contract with Atlantic Emergency Solutions to purchase a 2015 Ford F550 XLT Ultramedic Type 1 ambulance from Road Rescue. The unit is currently in production and expected to be delivered this Winter.

The unit is expected to be delivered and in service in early 2016 and serve primarily as a BLS unit, upgraded to ALS as qualified paramedic staffing permits. In December the department placed in service a 2013 International Road Rescue Ultramedic, the first new ambulance in over a decade.

Over the past 18 months, the HVFD has added over 30 qualified EMTs, a new Paramedic and several more members taking ALS training. New charge EMTs and drivers are being turned over regularly.

The new units replace a pair of 2003 American LaFrance units.
