Shortly after 4 p.m., units from Hyattsville, Riverdale, College Park and surrounding areas were dispatched for a reported bedroom fire in the 5900 block of 33rd Avenue. Engine 12, staffed with six volunteers, arrived on the scene within three minutes reporting fire showing from a two-story house.

Units quickly determined that all residents of the home had safely made it out and began an aggressive interior attack.

Engine 12's initial attack line was backed-up by another line from the pumper pulled by the crew of Engine 72, which had Engine 12's line.

Truck 12 was the first arriving special service and went to work inside. Truck 9 was the second arriving special service. Engine 341 took a secondary water supply position and their crew pulled an additional line. Engine 131 was also on the scene on the initial response.

The fire was knocked down within 10 minutes and held primarily to a first floor bedroom, hallway and living room.

Chief 12 had the command. Chief 55B had the interior. Additional EMS units were also on the scene.

Truck 91 (Takoma Park), Engine Company 11 and Ambulance 117 (Branchville) transferred to Company 1. Engine 12 cleared in just over two hours. A second crew was also in quarters by 6 p.m. Truck 91 briefly proceeded to the scene but was placed in service.
