Friday, 14 December 2007

As the live-ins were planning a quiet weekend away from finals and preparing dinner, the station began receiving phone calls about an apartment on fire in our first due. Before anyone had time to react, the box was struck at 1800 hours for the apartment fire at 5902 31st Ave.

Engine 12 with five arrived on scene with an odor of smoke and the building being evacuated. The engine crew connected their line to the 1st floor standpipe and encountered heavy smoke from the basement level. The standpipe connections were made by the driver and PE44 supplied Engine 12. After further investigation in zero visibility; crews found a dresser on fire in an apartment with the sprinkler activation keeping it in check. Searches and extension proved negative. Engine 12 cleared at 2009 hours.
